Kawaii stands for cute in Japanese and Desu is another Japanese word, look it up.

As far as I understand, "Kawaii desu" means "It's cute".

Yes, 'Kawaii Desu' DOES, in fact, mean 'It's cute'.
I only know that because of watching Japanese episodes of Kirby xD I'm such a retard.
But, yea. Escargon usually ends he sentences with Degesu, which means 'To be' or 'Is'.
